Texoma music hall of fame exhibit now open

The Sherman Museum announced today that a new exhibit entitled, “Texoma Music Hall of Fame” is now open. The exhibition will run from January 16 through May 30 and highlights the lives and careers of several famous musicians that have ties to the Texoma region. Vintage records, instruments and other music related artifacts are also on display.

Seven artists are featured in the “Texoma Music Hall of Fame”, including: Bomar Cramer, Buddy Tate, Reba McEntire, Gene Autry, Miranda Lambert, Buck Owens and
Blake Shelton. Musicians such as, Randy Travis and Johnny Perry are also included in the exhibit. “It’s exciting to have so many important musicians with roots in this area and we wanted this exhibit to celebrate their lives and honor their accomplishments,” said Executive Director Dan Steelman.

Museum visitors will find an acoustic guitar that once belonged to Sherman native and Country Music Hall of Fame recipient, Buck Owens, on display during the exhibit.

Owens donated the guitar to the City of Sherman in 1996 and it is part of the permanent collection on display in the upstairs lobby at Kidd-Key Auditorium. The city has generously loaned it to the museum for the exhibit, along with two large scale paintings, one of Buck Owens and another of saxophonist Buddy Tate.

The Sherman Museum is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.  Admission is: $5.00 for adults; $3.00 for seniors (Ages 60+); $2.00 for students (age 6-18) and for those with a college ID; FREE for children 5 and under and FREE for museum members.

Kris Rutherford to give “Baseball On The Prairie” lecture Oct. 17

(SHERMAN, Texas) October 14, 2014

Kris Rutherford, author of Baseball on the Prairie, will give a FREE

lecture on Friday,October 17, at 12:00 p.m. at the Sherman Museum, in the community room downstairs. Guests are welcome to bring a brown bag lunch and eat during the lecture. Seating is limited so the public is encouraged to arrive early. The author will be autographing copies of his book, which will be available to purchase at the event.

Mr. Rutherford’s book documents the early days of Texas League Baseball. The League was centered around seven small-town teams, including, Sherman, Denison,Paris, Corsicana, Cleburne, Greenville and Temple. Rutherford pieces together a recordof the people and towns that shaped the Texas League history. “Baseball is the classicAmerican game, and we are excited to have Kris speak to us about the Texas League’srole in the history of the game,” noted Executive Director, Dan Steelman.

My Dad played in the Texas League and my childhood memories are full of ball parks (and swimming pools) in small towns all across North Texas.  These players didn't earn the huge salaries that baseball players earn today, they barely made expenses.  These men played for the love of the game.

Team members, with families in tow, would meet and travel to the game locations in a caravan of cars.  In fact, that is how I came to be born in Sherman.  As they tell the story, just as Dad rounded third base, the announcer called out "Bob Wooten, you are the father of a baby girl!"

DINO DAYS 2014 EXTENDED

The Sherman Museum announced today that their popular dinosaur

exhibition, DINO DAYS, will be extended through October 4. The one-week extension will give visitors a last-minute chance to see the exhibit before it moves on.

“We’ve had an outstanding summer with the dinos. I hope that anyone wanting to see them before they leave will take advantage of this extension,” noted Museum Director, Dan Steelman. “Thousands have visited the dinosaurs this summer, but it not too late for anyone who hasn’t.”

This year’s exhibition includes four complete skeletons – the most ever displayed during DINO DAYS – as well as casts from various other dinosaurs. DINO DAYS 2014 features two Jurassic heavyweights, Allosaurus (25-feet long) and Stegosaurus (about 20-feet long). Returning for a second visit will be Velociraptor and Protoceratops. New to DINO DAYS will be two footprint casts donated to the museum earlier this year, both from individual animals believed to be Acrocanthosaurus atokensis. The original footprints from which the museum casts were made are estimated to be 113 million years old, dating back to the early Cretaceous period, and were discovered in Hamilton County, Texas.

Other popular DINO DAYS attractions are the DINO DIG and the 3-D Dino Theater. The dig allows children to search for fossils using paleontological techniques. The theater displays dinosaur documentaries and feature-length movies like Walking with Dinosaurs in 3-D.

SHERMAN, Texas | September 12, 2014

The Sherman Museum announced today that the actor Wyatt Earp will give a free public lecture entitled “Wyatt Earp: Stories of Life on the Frontier,” on Friday, September 19 starting at high noon, 12:00 p.m. Mr. Earp will speak in the downstairs community room. Seating is limited and guests are encouraged to arrive early for best seat selection. Lecture guests are invited to bring a brown bag lunch and eat during the event. Guests wishing to attend the lecture are asked to go directly to the basement level.

Mr. Earp is the first cousin twice removed from the famous Old West lawman. An actor, he is in town to perform his one-man show about his famous namesake on Saturday night. The Saturday night performance is presented by the Sherman Community Players and sponsored by Austin College. “We are pleased to have Mr. Earp speak at The Sherman Museum,” said Dan Steelman, Museum Director. The original Wyatt Earp was a Pima County, Arizona Deputy Sheriff, and Deputy Town Marshal in Tombstone, Arizona. He took part in the Gunfight at the O.K. Corral during which lawmen killed three outlaw Cowboys. After this famous shootout, Earp’s name became synonymous with the stereotypical image of an Old West lawman, and a symbol of American frontier justice.

The Sherman Museum is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. DINO DAYS continues upstairs through September 27. The lecture is free, but persons wishing to view DINO DAYS will be charged an admission fee: $5.00 for ages 6 and up and FREE for children 5 and under and museum members.

The Sherman Museum Sponsors Second Annual History Comes Alive Tour

“History Comes Alive at West Hill Cemetery,” a historical tour of Sherman’s West Hill Cemetery. The event will take place on September 27, 2014 and consists of timed tours through the cemetery with stops at specific locations.

Costumed actors will share informative and entertaining stories about individuals interned in the cemetery or about that section of the cemetery. Tours begin at 9:30 a.m. and continue at staggered times until 3:30 p.m. Tours are suitable for all ages. One tour will offer handicapped accessibility.

The event will serve as The Sherman Museum’s major fundraising event for 2014. Tickets are $20 for adults; $15 for museum members; $10 for students with ID; and children under 12 are free. Tours are limited to groups of 25, so advanced ticket purchase is encouraged. Tickets can be purchased online at the museum’s website www.theshermanmuseum.org or in person at either the Touch of Class Antique Mall (118 W. Lamar Street, Sherman) or at The Sherman Museum (301 S. Walnut Street, Sherman). Any tickets remaining on the day of the event can be purchased at the event.

Museum volunteers carefully selected the grave sites in hopes of offering something for everyone. “The tour will feature eight stops in a relatively small area of the cemetery making the walk easy, but focusing on cultural diversity and some really unique individuals,” said event planner Shelly Morgan.

Among the notables in this year’s tour include Andrew Lawrence Randell, a world-famous Mason; Thomas Jefferson Shannon, “The Father of Sherman;” and John Brooke, a businessman from England, known for his descriptive letters relating life in his adopted country. Also featured is Elisha Baker, a soldier who served for both North and the South during the Civil War. Other stops include the grave of Texas Ranger Francis Marshalk, and the headstone of Electra Waggoner Biggs, famed Texas sculptor and oil-and-ranching heiress.

Early Sherman culture is the focus of a stop in the Jewish Cemetery, as well as at the headstone of Dr. Anthony Prince, a Black physician whose home was burned in the riot of 1930. Njoki McElroy, author of a book on the life in Sherman during this era, will be the presenter, and her books will be available for purchase.

West Hill Cemetery is located at 1304 W Lamar St, Sherman, TX 75092.  Parking and check-in for all tours will be at Texas Health-Wilson N. Jones Hospital parking lot on Houston Street between Bryant and Highland streets with TAPS bus transportation to the tour’s starting location inside West Hill Cemetery. Tour participants should arrive 15 minutes prior to the tour time departure.

EXPERIENCE NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM ON JULY 22

Do things really come alive at night in the museum? Like in the movie, “Night at the Museum”? The Sherman Museum announced today that they will give the public a chance to see for themselves on Tuesday, July 22 starting at 7:00 pm. The museum will stay open until 9:00 pm so the museum’s current DINO DAYS exhibit can be viewed in the fading light of evening.

NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM will feature DINO DAYS stars "Big Al", a 25 foot long Allosaurus, and "Spike", a 20 foot long Stegosaurus under near dark conditions, so children are asked to bring their flashlights. “We want to offer a different perspective to the exhibit. We want the kids to have fun interacting with the dinosaurs in the shadowy conditions of evening,” noted Executive Director Dan Steelman. As a special treat, the museum will serve popcorn and drinks in the 3-D theater while the 2013-release, full length movie, “Walking with Dinosaurs” plays. The 3-D film follows the journey of a young pachyrhinosaurus and will give viewers a glimpse of what life was like when dinosaurs ruled the earth. The popular DINO DIG will also be available for children visiting the museum to experience a night time excavation of fossils under flood lights. Returning for a second visit will be Velociraptor and Protoceratops. New to DINO DAYS will be two footprint casts donated to the museum earlier this year, both from individual animals believed to be Acrocanthosaurus atokensis. The original footprints from which the museum casts were made are estimated to be 113 million years old, dating back to the early Cretaceous period, and were discovered in Hamilton County, Texas.

“I am excited that our skeletons will be posed interacting together, and I am anxious to see how our exhibit planners have designed their conflict,” noted Museum Director, Dan Steelman. “These animals lived together at the same time and contended with each other. I am pleased that we can pose them as animals and not just museum pieces.”

Other returning popular DINO DAYS attractions are the DINO DIG and the 3-D Dino Theater. The dig allows children to search for fossils using paleontological techniques. The theater displays dinosaur documentaries and feature-length movies like Jurassic Park 3-D and Walking with Dinosaurs in 3-D. DINO ACADEMY will return again this year offering children ages 6-12 a hands-on dino experience.

During June hours for DINO DAYS will be 10:00 am – 4:00 pm, Tuesday through Saturday. Beginning in July and continuing through August, special extended hours will be offered on Tuesdays when the museum will stay open until 7:00 pm. Regular Tuesday hours will return in September.

SHERMAN CARNEGIE LIBRARY BUILDING CELEBRATES 100 YEARS

The Sherman Museum will kick-off its Centennial celebration of the Sherman Carnegie Library building (now The Sherman Museum) with a reception on Thursday, June 5 at 6:00 pm at the Sherman Museum honoring Martha (Mattie) Davis Lucas for her efforts in the founding of the Sherman Public Library. The event will be jointly sponsored by the museum and the Friends of the Library organizations. Refreshments will be served and family members of Mattie Lucas will present a program about the historical event. In addition, artifacts and historical documents from the Lucas collection also will be on display. Attendees are welcome to tour the building and the museum’s current exhibits. The public is invited to attend.

Mattie Davis Lucas served as President of the Sherman Shakespeare Club from 1911 to 1913. She spearheaded the Library project, serving as Chairman of the Library committee. Her leadership resulted in a cooperative effort between the Sherman Service League, the city, and the Sherman Shakespeare Club to obtain a public library in Sherman. With encouragement from the city council, the Sherman Service League requested funding from the Andrew Carnegie Foundation. Following grant approval in 1912, the City of Sherman promptly purchased a site and retained local architect John Tulloch. Construction of the Sherman Public library began in 1914 and the city celebrated its’ grand opening on July 10, 1915.

TWO RARE PALEOHISTORIC ARTIFACTS ADDED TO MUSEUM COLLECTION

(SHERMAN, Texas) May 6, 2014 —The Sherman Museum announced today the addition of a pair of rare dinosaur footprint casts to the museum collection. The footprint casts, both from individual animals believed to be Acrocanthosaurus atokensis were donated to the museum by Gainesville, Texas historian and collector, Dr. Ernest Martin. The original footprints from which the museum casts were made are estimated to be 113 million years old, dating back to the early Cretaceous period, and were discovered in Hamilton County, Texas near the Lampasas River. Each cast
represents the left foot of unique Acrocanthosaurus individuals: a juvenile and an adult. Based on the proximity of the footprints and their orientation, it appears the pair of Acros (as the species iscommonly known) was traveling together and may have shared a familial relationship.

Acrocanthosaurus atokensis was nearly as large as Tyrannosaurus rex but lived more than 50 million years earlier. It was closely related to Carcharodontosaurus saharicus from Africa, as well as to the Jurassic predator from North America, Allosaurus. One of the most prominent identifying features of the Acrocanthosaurus species is the presence of extremely long spines along the top of the vertebrae of the back, hips and tail. These spines also gave this dinosaur its name as Acrocanthosaurus, literally translated, means "high spined lizard".

Museum director, Dan Steelman, noted that Acrocathosaurus atokensis has local roots. ”It’s skeletal remains were first discovered in Atoka County, Oklahoma, hence the secondary name atokensis“. He added that Oklahoma has claimed Acrocanthosaurus as the official state dinosaur. Trackways attributed to Acrocanthosaurus have been found in multiple Texas locations, too, ranging from
Lamar County on the Red River, to Kinney County bordering the Rio Grande River. One well known trackway discovered near Glen Rose, Texas shows what appears to be an attack upon a much larger sauropod dinosaur by an Acrocanthosaurus.

“We are so grateful to Dr. Martin for making these fossil tracings available to our visitors,” Steelman said. The footprints will be on display during the museum’s DINO DAYS exhibition scheduled to begin June 24, 2014.

ROBERT A. SPANGLER TO SPEAK AT LUNCH LECTURE APRIL 25

The Sherman Museum announced today that Robert A. Spangler, whose photographs are published in the book, In the Shadow of Danger: Photographs of the Vietnam War, 1970-71, will present a lunch lecture on April 25, at noon in the community room. The photographer will be signing copies of his book, which are available to purchase in the museum store. Admission is free and the public is invited.

Mr. Spangler spent a year in Vietnam as a combat correspondent with the 10th Public Information Detachment documenting the lives of soldiers for civilian and military publications. Some highlights of the photographs include: men serving in the field and in the air, medics saving lives and soldiers helping civilians rebuild. “He has captured some compelling images of soldiers in the call of duty and we are delighted to have him share his story with us,” said Executive Director Dan Steelman. His photographs join the images and words of over 500 men and women interviewed in an Oral History Project at the R.W. Norton Art Foundation, and were subsequently published in a book and traveling art exhibit. The exhibit is featured at the museum as part of the current exhibition, entitled, “The Vietnam Experience”. The display will run through June 14.

EASTER EGG HUNT AT THE SHERMAN MUSEUM ON APRIL 19

The Sherman Museum announced today that they will host an Easter Egg Hunt on the lawn surrounding the building on April 19, at 1 pm. The Easter Egg Hunt will be included with one adult paid admission to the museum.

Younger children will be given a slight head start time. It is the first time an Easter Egg Hunt has been held at the museum in their 38 year history. “We want to offer something fun for the kids in the community, and hope they will return for future events like DINO DAYS,” said Office Manager Alee McKinney. While the majority of the eggs will hold candy, many of them will be filled with small toys and prizes from the museum gift shop. The kids will also have a chance to find FREE tickets to DINO DAYS coming in June. Children are asked to bring their own Easter baskets and arrive a few minutes early to register at the front desk.

The Sherman Museum announced today that they will be presenting an exhibit entitled, “The Vietnam Experience”. The exhibition will run from April 8 through June 14 and will feature a special traveling exhibit from the R.W. Norton Art Museum in Shreveport, LA called “In The Shadow Of Danger: Photographs of The Vietnam War, 1970-71 by Sp5 Robert Spangler.

Photographer, Robert Spangler, spent a year in Vietnam as a combat correspondent documenting the lives of the soldiers around him. There will be 80 oversized photographs on display with accompanying text. Mr. Spangler will present a lunch lecture at the museum on April 25 at noon in the community room.

The exhibition will also feature artifacts and photographs from the Bob Hillerby collection as well as from Grandpa’s footlocker and other local veterans. Military vehicles will be on display at the museum on May 17 and May 23. “We have received an outpouring of support for this exhibit from our local veterans,” said Executive Director Dan Steelman. “The Vietnam Experience” is sponsored by Adam Smith’s Texoma Harley, Vietnam Veterans of America Sherman Texas Chapter 973, Hillerby Printing, Perrin AFB Museum, Grandpa’s Footlocker and the Grayson County Historical Society.

The Sherman Museum will present Dr. Njoki McElroy, whose book,

1012 Natchez: A Memoir of Grace, Hardship and Love depicts her life in Sherman beginning in the 1930’s, on Thursday, February 20, at 6:30 p.m. Admission is free and the public is invited. She will talk about the importance of family and tell stories from her early life in Sherman and from additional experiences in New Orleans and Chicago in the Jim Crow era. Dr. McElroy graduated from Lincoln High School in South Dallas, was a professor at Northwestern University in Chicago for 33 years, and is now a professor at Southern Methodist University in Dallas.

“I feel it is very important for African Americans to retell their stories, particularly before the stories from those who are older are lost,” Dr. McElroy stated. Her grandparents, who lived at 1012 Natchez, and their neighbors often gathered to tell and retell stories, which instilled in McElroy both cultural and personal values, as well as an appreciation for history.

Dr. McElroy’s presentation is in conjunction and in celebration of Black History Month. The annual meeting for museum members is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on February 20, immediately preceding Dr. McElroy’s talk. All members are encouraged to stay to hear Dr. McElroy speak. The museum will be unveiling the revamped Grayson County Courthouse Exhibit, which includes the history of the 1930 riot in Sherman, on that evening as well. Anyone interested in hearing readings and stories from Dr. McElroy is invited to The Sherman Museum, 301 S. Walnut, on February 20, to hear her presentation and meet her. CHRISTMAS DOWNTOWN EXHIBIT OPENS DECEMBER 10

The Sherman Museum will collaborate with members of the Sherman Downtown Now to present a holiday exhibit entitled,

“Christmas Downtown.” The exhibit opens December 10, 2013 and will run

Downtown Sherman Christmas 2012

through January 4, 2014.

The exhibit celebrates the spirit of Christmas with holiday themed displays presented by an array of retail shops, salons and restaurants located in the vibrant downtown neighborhood. The museum’s Christmas decorations will also be exhibited, including vintage toys from their collection. Each vendor will decorate a tree or wreath representing their business and display it in the exhibit at the museum. “We can’t wait to see how each of the participants will show off their Christmas decor,” said Museum Coordinator Chris Rumohr. Museum visitors will be given a chance to vote on their favorite Christmas display and the winner will be announced and recognized on the museum website and social media pages at the close of the exhibit.

The museum is offering $1 off admission in exchange for canned goods and other food items during the “Christmas Downtown” exhibit. All pantry items collected will be donated to the Grand Central Station Dining Car in Sherman after the exhibit ends.

History Comes Alive at West Hill Cemetery

Take a little stroll through History in Sherman's historic West Hill Cemetery!

On Saturday, October 19, beginning at 11 am the Sherman Museum will host a walking tour with actors (some from Sherman Community Players) historians from United Daughters of the Confederacy and story tellers will bring to life stories of notable citizens from Sherman's past during a guided cemetery tour. 

The walking tour will make 9 stops with 10 minute presentations to both inform and entertain attendees and includes a stop inside the Mausoleum where the recently restored Tiffany glass window will be explained.

Tours will be limited to groups of 20 with staggered start times beginning at 11 a.m. and starting on the hour and half hour until 4:30 pm. The tour is designed to be less than a mile in walking distance, and a handicap-friendly tour will be at 2pm.

VIN FIZ EXHIBIT OPENS OCTOBER 15; TROPHIES ON DISPLAY

The Sherman Museum will present an exhibit entitled, " Fiz”, honoring early


Rodgers taking off on his epic journey

aviation in Grayson County. The exhibition opens October 15 and coincides with the World Aerobatic Championships (WAC) which started yesterday at North Texas Regional Airport. The WAC brings together the finest aerobatic pilots in the world for a two-week competition.

The exhibit celebrates the flight of the “Vin Fiz” by Calbraith Perry Rogers in 1911. Rogers became the first man to fly an aircraft above Grayson County when he visited the county during an attempt to cross the United States by air. Rogers’ effort was spurred by a $50,000 prize for the first person to make the transcontinental flight in 30 days or less. Rogers’ flight training consisted of 90 minutes of lessons from Orville Wright. His biplane, a Wright Brothers-built model EX, was named the “Vin Fiz,” after a soft drink made by Rogers’ sponsor, J. Ogden Armour. Rogers’ journey was marred by crashes and mechanical problems. By the time he reached Grayson County, the 30-day time limit on the prize had passed, but Rogers continued his flight anyway. In all, it took three months for Rogers to complete the flight.

The “Vin Fiz” exhibit includes a display of the trophies that are awarded to the WAC winners. “These trophies have been around the world; it’s a great honor to have them here in the museum,” said Executive Director Dan Steelman. The trophies are kept by the winning team for one year and subsequently brought back together at the World Aerobatic Championships
to be reissued annually.

The Sherman Museum will team up with the Sherman Community

Sherman Museum

Players (SCP) to present an exhibition entitled, “The Show Goes On”, highlighting the Sherman Community Players’ long history of producing live theater in Texoma. The exhibition begins September 10, 2013 and runs through October 12, 2013. A grand opening event with ribbon cutting will be held Friday, September 13, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

 

The Sherman Community Players organization debuted in February 1926, making it one of the pioneers of the Little Theater movement in Texas. “The Show Goes On "exhibition will feature items from SCP’s performance history, including costumes, stage props, photos, playbills and other items. The month-long exhibit will spotlight the contributions over the years of the talented volunteers, staff, and facilities that brought the performances to life. Dan Steelman, Executive Director of The Sherman Museum, noted “We are thrilled to celebrate the SCP and their sixty-five years of uninterrupted live theatrical excellence that the group has provided for Sherman and the Texoma region.”

DINO DAYS “BACK TO SCHOOL” SPECIAL SET FOR TUESDAY, AUGUST 27

(SHERMAN, Texas) August 21, 2013 —The Sherman Museum today announced

Dino Days Ends August 30th

that it will offer a special “Back to School” event showcasing its popular DINO DAYS exhibit on Tuesday, August 27, 2013. On August 27 only, the museum will open at 1:00 p.m. and extend its hours until 7:00 p.m. All persons attending on August 27 will enjoy a special “Back to School” half-price admission rate of $2.00 (6 years and up). Members, and children 5 years and under remain free. The exhibition of dinosaur fossils and castings is scheduled to end Friday, August 30th.

“We want to give the kids, who are back in school, a chance to say goodbye to the Dinosaurs before they leave Texoma,” noted Museum Director Dan Steelman. “We are so fortunate to have this kind of exhibit in the region and want everyone to have a chance to see it. Hopefully, the extended hours and reduced rate will give them an opportunity to see “BUCKY” the T.rex and the other dinos after school on Tuesday.” In addition to the dinosaur skeletons and casts, visitors to DINO DAYS can view a 3-D Dino documentary and search for fossils in the DINO DIG.

This year’s DINO DAYS 2013 exhibit broke attendance records set by last year’s DINO DAYS event, making it the museum’s most successful exhibition in the last decade.

The museum’s regular operational hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 4 p.m. The museum is located at 301 South Walnut Street in Sherman.

The Sherman Museum today announced that it will extend

Dino Days Exhibit at Sherman Museum

its popular DINO DAYS exhibit through August 30, 2013. The exhibition of dinosaur fossils and castings was scheduled to end Saturday, August 3. The extension was made possible by funding from the Luella Kemper Trust, and the Thelma Braun & Bocklett Family Foundation. During August the museum will celebrate the four-week extension by lowering the admission fee to $4.00 dollars (6 years and up). Members, and children 5 years and under remain free.

 

“We are so pleased to continue the exhibit another four weeks,” noted Museum Director Dan Steelman. “We are fortunate to have these artifacts locally for the remainder of August; they are in high demand and have worldwide appeal. BUCKY, the Tyrannosaurus rex skeleton will be leaving here and going to a museum in Hong Kong for a six month exhibition. I hope that the extension will give folks an opportunity to see  the dinos before they leave Texoma.”

Dino Days Lecture Series Concludes

The Sherman Museum  announced that its DINO DAYS 2013 Lecture Series will conclude Friday, July 26, 2013, with a noon-time lecture by Professor David Baker. Professor Baker will speak on the subject, “Extreme Change: What Killed the Dinosaurs?”. The event will begin at noon and last until 1:00 p.m. The event is free to the public; however, admission to the museum’s DINO DAYS exhibition requires a fee.

David Baker, chair of the Austin College Department of Physics,takes teaching to extremes—extreme places that is. The physicist and his colleague Todd Ratcliff, planetary geophysicist at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, have written The 50 Most Extreme
Places in Our Solar System. “I love exploring extreme things on Earth and other planets. From intense local thunderstorms to the wildest reaches of our Solar System, I strive to remain objective to
the science and simultaneously allow myself to be awe-struck by the phenomena. What can I say -- I find extreme stuff fun and exciting to study!”

About DINO DAYS 2013
DINO DAYS 2013 is the only large-scale exhibition of dinosaur fossils and fossil
castings in Grayson County. The two-month-long exhibition (June 4 – August 3, 2013)
includes fossil representation from more than twenty different dinosaurs, including
Tyrannosaurus rex, Triceratops, Allosaurus, Bellusaurus, and Velociraptor. The
educational component of the exhibition is Dino Academy, a workshop series for
children interested in prehistoric life. Other features of the exhibition include a Dino Dig
and 3-D dinosaur documentary movies.
