Grayson college offers spring cooking classes

Italian, Tex-Mex, Easter and dreamy breakfasts are the menu themes when

Grayson College’s Hospitality Management & Culinary Arts Center partners with its Center for Workplace Learning to offer recreational cooking classes this spring. Open to the public, classes take place at the Culinary Arts Center on GC’s Main Campus in Denison, east of the Viking Dorm. Participants must be at least 16 years old to enroll in the classes, except where noted.

Taught by GC’s chef instructors, courses provide hands-on training, demonstrations, and interactive learning in the college’s state-of-the-art facility. Participants learn knife skills and explore cooking methods as they prepare and consume cuisine that ranges from the familiar to the unexpected. In some of the classes, participants prepare goodies to take home as well.

“Let’s Cook Tex-Mex” brings the fiesta into the kitchen. Participants tackle Tex-Mex favorites such as sour cream chicken enchiladas, tamales with green chili sauce and flan from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, March 4. Cost is $29 per person.

“Kids’ Easter Egg Dyeing Class” is designed for kids of all ages. Participants learn fun ways to dye and decorate eggs using many different techniques, a lot of colors, stickers, and glitter. Cost is $12 per person for the class, which meets Saturday, April 19 from 10 to 11:30 a.m.

“Easter Bunny Cake” teaches participants how to make the perfect dessert and centerpiece for Easter brunch or dinner. The Easter bunny-shaped cake and Easter basket cupcakes are fun to create and delicious to eat. The class meets Saturday, April 19 from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Cost is $29 per person.
“Dream Breakfast Party” makes the most important meal of the day the tastiest too. Participants learn how to make the perfect muffin recipe, crepes, made-from-scratch biscuits and more. Cost is $29 per person. The class meets on Saturday, May 3 from 1 to 3:30 p.m.

“Intermediate Fondant Work” takes cakes to the next level. Participants use fondant to work on basic flowers, cut out shapes, create ball borders, and more. The class meets Saturday, May 10 from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Cost is $39 per person.

In addition to the spring cooking classes, private cooking classes and children’s birthday cooking classes are available as well.
