Evening of Jazz

The Sherman Museum  will sponsor an “Evening of Jazz” event at the museum on February 21, 2013. The event will feature music from members of the Sherman High School Jazz  Ensemble under the direction of Flint Weed. The event will begin at 5:00 pm and last  until 7:00 pm.

Jazz Exhibit at Sherman MuseumLight refreshments will be served. “Evening of Jazz” is a members-only event, but any non-member who wishes to attend may do so by purchasing a membership at the door.  Memberships range in cost from $25 to $1000 and are tax deductible.

An “Evening of Jazz” coincides with the museum’s current exhibit, “JAZZ,” comprised of artifacts on loan from the Sherman Jazz Museum while that museum is closed for building renovation. Items on display include trumpets from Harry James, Sammy Davis, Jr., Danny Davis, Al Hirt, and Maynard Ferguson. Other artists represented include Herb Alpert, Chet Baker, Miles Davis, Wynton Marsalis, and Doc Severinsen.

“We are proud of our membership and this event is a way of thanking them for their continued support of the museum,” explained Executive Director Dan Steelman. “We could not do what we do without their help.” A brief business meeting will be held,  at which time the 2012 Volunteer of the Year award will be given to Michael Cuthbertson II. Cuthbertson volunteered during the busy DINO DAYS 2012 exhibit. Steelman praised Cuthbertson, noting that “Michael was a stalwart presence during DINO DAYS. He visited the exhibit, liked what he saw, signed up as a volunteer, and was there practically every day till the end of the exhibition.”

The Sherman Museum is located at 301 South Walnut in Sherman, Texas.
