Pottsboro Receives Certified Retirement Community Designation

The Pottsboro Area Development Alliance, The City of Pottsboro and
GO TEXAN Certified Retirement Community
The Pottsboro Area Chamber of Commerce are pleased to announce that the Pottsboro Area has recently been designated as a GO TEXAN Certified Retirement Community (CRC). This certification, awarded by the Texas Department of Agriculture, requires the completion of a rigorous application process, and has only been awarded to 52 communities to date. When a community receives the GO TEXAN stamp of approval as a CRC, that means that it has met the living, employment, volunteer, health, entertainment, education, and safety needs of its citizens and visitors. These are what make Texas a great place to spend a day ... or a lifetime.

More than 400,000 U.S. citizens and 33,000 Texans retire each year, according to PEW Research. The Texoma region is already a top choice for recreation, with excellent boating, fishing, camping, and hiking within minutes of Pottsboro, as we strategically occupy some of the best real estate in Grayson County. Our community of more than 8,000 people is near the commercial centers of Sherman/ Denison and less than an hour from the Dallas/Ft. Worth Metroplex; all this, while offering a slower pace of life and affordability that is perfect for retirees.

The Pottsboro Area Development Alliance (PADA) is spearheading the movement to promote our community as the newest CRC in Texas. This 501(c)(3) non-profit organization is committed to supporting programs that will make our community a better place for residents and visitors alike. PADA played a key role in bringing the Brookshire’s grocery store to town, as well as constructing the $1 million James G. Thompson Municipal Park. The next task of PADA will be to attract developers to build the senior living communities we anticipate needing in the Pottsboro Area as our population grows and our current retirees begin to downsize. With our new CRC status and Lake Texoma at our doorstep, we believe we are an attractive choice to prospective developers. We are strategically positioning ourselves for future growth, while maintaining the small-town charm that makes us one of the best-kept secrets in Texas.

As part of our effort to “let the world know” we have scheduled an Awards Ceremony combined with a Pottsboro Area Economic Forum for Friday, April 3rd at the Tanglewood Resort and Conference Center from 3-5 pm followed by a Happy Hour and Exhibitors Booths. Several area developers will be presenting at the meeting along with a panel of local community leaders who will be available to answer questions about Pottsboro’s future plans. Following the meeting, several local businesses will be exhibiting their products/services outside the conference room. Enjoy a refreshment or two while you chat with some of your local businesses.
