International Film Festival Debuts May 16th

May 11, 2014
The Interurban Film Festival will feature 24 films from around the world when it takes place May 16 – 17 at the Kidd Key Auditorium in Sherman.

Interurban Film FestivalThe first Interurban line built in Texas ran from Denison to Sherman in 1910.That line between Denison and Sherman kept expanding and by 1902 a line was built from Dallas to Fort Worth and it kept growing. The 76 miles between Dallas and Denison was the fourth leg to be added. By 1913 the line went all the way through Cleburne, Waxahachie, Corsicana and Waco to Galveston. By 1931 there were 518.75 miles along the interurban line.

Inspired by the history of our community, city leaders hope that the Interurban Film Festival will follow that tradition of innovation bringing growth to the Texoma area.  Sean Vanderveer proposed the idea at a meeting with Sherman Mayor Cary Wacker and local community leaders as they considered ideas for boosting the local economy.  According to Vanderveer, “the ultimate goal of this event is to attract visitors to the Texoma area with a multi-day event that will fill hotel rooms and restaurants with patrons.”

The inaugural event attracted 38 film entries and the review committee carefully considered the quality of each film before acceptance was granted.  The films cover drama, horror and comedy but are not really suited for children.  A three judge panel will choose awards for Best Overall Film, Best Short Film, Best Feature Film and Honorable Mention.  The audience will vote on the People’s Choice Award at the end of the event.

The 2014 Interurban Film Festival will feature 24 films from around the world.  Many of these films have already received awards from other film festivals.   A 13 and a half foot by 24 foot screen has been purchased and will fill the stage of the Kidd Key Auditorium to provide the audience with an exhilarating theatre experience.

These are high quality films produced on a small budget and are shorter in length than million dollar films. As an example, take a look at the official trailer of Dead Therapy, submitted by Australian producers Julie Dickson and Lucas Scheffel, directed by Lucas Scheffel and written by Brett Alan Bentman.

A meet and greet party catered by Fulbelli's and featuring Coconut Ale from 903 Brewers will close the event on Saturday evening.  For ticket information, visit InterurbanFestivals.comhttp://www.InterurbanFestivals.com
