Heard Museum Butterfly House Opens for 2014 season



The Butterfly House and Gardens at the Heard Natural Science Museum opens for the 2014 season on May 17th.  
and Wildlife Sanctuary

The butterfly house includes native species, which vary by season and the gardens are filled with host plants that naturally attract these lovely creatures.  As you walk among free-flying native butterflies and other pollinators you may even find a few ides to try in your own garden.  

Texas Butterfly at Heard Museum Heard volunteer Melanie Schuchart will be available in the butterfly garden to answer questions about butterflies, their life cycle, plants that naturally attract butterflies, and more on May 17th from 10 am - 12 pm and on  May 18 from 1 - 3 pm

It is a great place for nature photography so be sure to bring your camera!

There are always many things to do, see and experience at the Heard. The sanctuary, nature trails, native plant garden, education department, exhibits and collections, nature store and rental facilities provide visitors with an array of services and activities.

Founded in 1967, the Heard Museum consists of a 289 acre wildlife sanctuary and a natural science museum for the primary purpose of educating children and nature.  Innovative programs designed for all age groups, interests and abilities are offered throughout the year.  Home school, pre-school and scouting programs are also offered.  Summer nature camps are offered June thru August.

The Heard is located at 1 Nature Place in McKinney, Texas.  They are open Tuesday – Saturday from 9 AM – 5PM.
