Distinguished Alumni Symposium

Texas A&M LogoLeaders from public and private schools as well as public servants and business  leaders have agreed to be facilitators and panelists in the second of a series of  symposia sponsored by the Texas A&M University-Commerce  Distinguished Alumni. Those attending will gain insights into the educational process from a wide variety of education specialists. Attendees will share their perspectives in an attempt to  enlarge our vision of how we can reach the shared goal of education.

Dr. Pamela Anglin, president of Paris Junior College and Dr. Ken Helvey, superintendent of Allen Independent School District are invited participants in the symposium. Other notable speakers include Dr. John Horn, Schlechty Center Senior Associate and Former Allen and Mesquite ISD Superintendent, Dr. Dan Jones, A&M-Commerce President, Geraldine “Tincy” Miller, a member of the State Board of  Education, Dr. Mike Moses, Former Texas Commissioner of Education and Dallas ISD Superintendent, and Dr. Thomas Poore, John Paul II High School President. 

Panelists will spend the day on the A&M-Commerce campus, sharing their own views of education with superintendents, principals, university faculty, students and the public. As these leaders discuss the purpose of an education, attendees will be given the opportunity to ponder these ideas and share their own views.

The Distinguished Alumni Symposium will take place on Monday, March 18 on the second floor of the Sam Rayburn Student Center at 2200 W. Neal Street, Commerce, Texas 75428. There will be two morning sessions at 9:30 and 10:30 and an afternoon panel discussion at 1:00. The discussion panels will be free to students, faculty and the public, but do not include meals. Other options, which include the sessions and meal only, is $20, while the entire program, including meals and continuing professional education credit for educators, is $50. Deadline to register is Friday, March 8, 2013.
