Sam Rayburn Library Museum to host 131st birthday of Speaker Sam Rayburn


Bonham - On January 4, 2013, the Sam Rayburn Library Museum will be celebrating the
131st birthday of Speaker Sam Rayburn. Refreshments will be served from 3:00 p.m.
until 5:00 p.m.

Visitors are invited to join in remembering the man who rose from humble beginnings
to serve as Speaker of the U.S. House for 17 years, the longest tenure in U.S.
history.

Fannin County is fortunate to have a highly advanced group of amateur radio operators and the Fannin County Amateur Radio Club will set up inside the Sam Rayburn Library Museum January 4 in order to broadcast throughout the day

The celebration will also be a wonderful opportunity to explore the museum's newly
renovated permanent exhibit, a re-telling of Speaker Rayburn's story.

Then on Sunday, January 6 -- Mr. Rayburn's actual birthday --  Sam Rayburn House Museum will host its annual Sam Rayburn Day celebration. The open house from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.includes free admission and refreshments will be served. Along with fried chicken, coconut cake and onion sandwiches, chili was one of Rayburn’s best loved foods. From 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. taste two of “Mr. Sam’s” favorite chili recipes from one of his cookbooks and enjoy a slice of birthday cake. 

The Sam Rayburn Museum is located at 890 W. State Highway 56, two miles west of Bonham, will host its annual Sam Rayburn Day celebration.
