Robyn King of “Save Lake Texoma” and Lisa Davis, Deputy Director of
Restore Lake Texoma State Park, have joined forces in a joint effort to put together a community forum to discuss the decreasing water level on Lake Texoma and what measures can be put in place to protect the lake. The community meeting will be held at the Kingston Multi-Purpose Facility at 1 PM on Saturday March 15th in Kingston, Oklahoma.
The meeting has been designed to bring together subject matter experts, public leaders, citizens, business owners and other concerned individuals from both Texas and Oklahoma.
The purpose of the meeting is to help public leaders understand the impact of current laws, water levels, policies, and how that affects Lake Texoma residents, visitors, businesses, and the impact to the overall economic health of the lake community. There will be experts and representatives providing information and there will be sufficient time for interaction between the public and participating experts.
The meeting will target key subjects which have impacted the economic growth and stability of small businesses, jobs, home values and sales, and biological and natural events which have or may be impacted by the low water levels of Lake Texoma.
The primary questions to be posed include:
• Is the Flood Control Act (1938), which governs Lake Texoma, still valid or is it antiquated?
• Is there a comprehensive lake plan to address the extended drought, silting, and other environmental issues impacting
lake area fishing, hunting, public recreation and tourism?
• Can Oklahoma, Texas and our federal agencies work together to create a mutually beneficial plan for the citizens whose lives and livelihoods depend on the resources of Lake Texoma?
